Admission requirements

Great that you have decided to apply for the Tomsk International Science Program offered by the Institute of Smart Materials and Technology of TSU!

TISP does not have any fixed additional requirements. However, as TISP offers a broad science programme, you need a profound interest in the sciences. This should be evident from the courses you completed in your prior education. Selection takes place on the basis of your quality and suitability. For this your motivation and prior qualifications are important.

We review applications on a first come and we have limited places available every academic year. If you are keen to be part of our TISP, we encourage and recommend you to complete your application before June 15th 2021. Please note that you can already submit your application before finishing your final exams and be given a (conditional) place at TSU, so there is no need to wait until you have officially graduated! For the academic year of 2021-2022, we have 25 places available. The final application deadline is July 10th 2021.

You are eligible for admission to the TISP if you have a GCSE or an international equivalent thereof. 

2. Entrance exams
 

for the Russian applicants: General State Exams - Russian, Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry
for the International applicants: Exams - Mathematics and Physics/Chemistry 

3. English proficiency

 

Language requirements for this English-language bachelor program. In this study programme English is the language of instruction, therefore you have to be proficient in the English language. A minimum level corresponding to academic IELTS 6.5 is required for this study programme.

In case one or more of the conditions below apply to you, you automatically fulfill to the language requirement for this study programme:

- English is your native language*
- You have completed your admission training in an EU/EEA country where you have followed English up to and including the last year.
- You have completed your preparatory training in a country where English is the national language and language of instruction in education (such as Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States)
- You have completed an International or European Baccalaureate (IB)

* Definition of a native speaker:
a) someone who has followed education in English during 6 (or more) of his formative years (between 6 and 18 years old)
b) Someone who has completed a study in English language/literature (bachelor).

If TSU, however, has reasonable doubts about your language skills, TSU can set additional requirements to demonstrate the required language level.

Tuition fee

Tomsk International Science Program is designed by the Liberal Arts&Science Model, and therefore the tuition fees are higher than for regular university programmes. The extra investment ensures small teaching groups and the opportunity to customise your degree, both of which provide you with an enhanced learning experience.

Application and registration procedure

Application and registration procedure for a bachelor's programme at Tomsk State University consists of the several steps. Please read the procedure carefully and make sure to fulfil all steps in time.

You are from CIS 

(Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan)

1. Prepare following documents for applying:

CV (documents confirming individual achievements)
An identification document (scan)
Your diploma or other your educational documents (scan)
6 photos, size 3x4 cm

2. Apply the documents before July 10, choosing one of the following options:

You are free to choose any of following forms of entrance examinations:

Take an Unified State Examination

Registration for the examination ends February 1For registration, the applicant submits an identity document and an education certificate.

Take exams at TSU

Take the entrance exams in traditional written form in accordance to the schedule (Add the link). The schedule will be available on June, 1.

4. Sign an agreement and pay tuition fees before the 30th of August. Tuition may be paid on the basis of a invoice received in TSU accountancy office (room 7 TSU main building)

- via online banking services
- via the Internet on the TSU website.

5. Once you have passed the exams successfully and have paid tuition fees, you will find your name the enrolment roster http://abiturient.tsu.ru/company/documents/orders/

• In case if you send your documents via emails or public postal operators, they have to be notarized and translated into Russian language (if necessary) or you bring notarized versions of your documents upon your arrival.

You are from Far Abroad
1. Complete the online application* form before 10 July 2021 by the following link (intake is open from January 15). You will have to indicate the TISP
2. In order to complete your application, you need to upload the electronic copies of documents that confirm your academic background* (diploma, diploma supplement, certificates, transcripts, i.e. academic credentials) and a passport as soon as possible, at least before the application deadline.
3. The Board of Admissions will review and assess your application. You will be informed whether you are invited for the exams.
4. Take the entrance exams (Mathematics and Physics/Chemistry). The exams are in English and lasts maximum 35-45 min. You will be informed when and where you are going to take your exams. If you are unable to visit TSU, the exams can take place via Skype/Zoom. You can look through the exam's samples here (Math and Physics)

5. Within three weeks after exams the Board of Admissions decides and informs you whether or not you are invited to attend TISP.  After accepting our invitation to attend TISP and successfully completing the admissions process, you will receive an email informing you on the steps to take in order to finalize your registration at TSU. Furthermore, you will receive a request to pay your tuition fee. Make an advance payment (30-50% of annual tuition fee) till 15th of July according to the invoice and complete the visa support application form.

6. Then you will get an invitation from the TSU Visa Department. Usually it takes one month (20 business days). This invitation gives the right to apply for an entry visa at the Russian Embassy or Consulate in your home country prior to arrival in Russia. International applicants should not leave their home country before gaining admission to TSU.
7. After receiving the visa, please, send us information about your travel route (airline, flight number, arrival time, etc.) to organize the pick-up service. Please do so 7 days prior to your arrival.

8. Important! 
You will receive a request to pay the rest of tuition fee. Please, make sure you are able to do this before the 30th of August. You can choose one of the following options to pay:
- in any branch of the bank
- via online banking services
-via the Internet on the TSU website.

* Transcripts must be official copies from the registrar's office. We cannot accept unofficial transcripts or grade reports copied from student accounts. In order to be enrolled as a student of Tomsk State University your educational documents must be duly certified.
