Main Objectives

The course is designed to teach students consecutive interpreting. It also puts insight into interpreter‘s competences, memory, brain abilities, concentration, reaction, professional vocabulary, precision vocabulary, meaning and concept relation. Within the course interpreting techniques, grammatical patterns,  collocations, synonims, grammatical and lexical transformations and enlargement of learners‘ vocabularies are discussed.

Learning Outcomes

Formation of competence:

а) intercultural:

  • the ability to develop cultural and professional competence independently and to master techniques of interpreting;
  • the ability to get and use new knowledge independently.

b) professional:

  • the ability to operate basic terms and techniques in interpreting;
  • the ability to deal with words and their contextual meaning and usage,  collocations, glossaries, precision vocabulary, interpreter‘s shorthand;
  • ability to interprete consecuently.

Assessment requirements

Student’s skills and knowledge are assessed at consecutive interpreting tasks, and credits.

Assessment criteria

The assessment of students‘ works is carried out by the following criteria:

– compliance of the contents to the subject;

– logically, linguistically, grammatically correct interpretations;

– coherence and cohesion;

– tasks are passed in time.

The composition of final accumulative mark

Final mark consists of:  tasks – 50 %, group work and presentation – 20 %, credit – 30 %.
